Technology is not the only, or not even the main source of innovation. The realization that social and economic factors make it possible to use existing technologies in new unprecedented ways has become increasingly more evident. 

The integration of innovative, accessible and affordable technologies with technologies already in use in various organizations, both public and private, is now the current driver for the creation of added value within the supply chain, for the achievement of new and necessary levels of industrialization and for the enhancement of skills and knowledge. Tools, such as enabling technologies (virtual reality, robotics, sensors, additive printing, etc.), advanced digital survey (3D laser scanner, drones, photogrammetry, etc.), integrated diagnostics, acquisition, processing, representation, modelling and data sharing (including BIM tools, ACDat etc.) are only some of the possibilities for innovation and optimization made available by the current context.
